600+ Practice Questions
There are 658 questions, sorted by topic so they line up with the study guide. Most have one right answer, some have two or three, and a few ask you to put steps in order. Every answer comes with an explanation, and the blue cover has a square for each question.
What happens when a consumer group has more consumers than partitions?
- a)The consumer group fails to initialize
- b)Multiple consumers share the same partitions
- c)Partitions are distributed round-robin across all consumers
- d)Extra consumers remain idle until a partition becomes available
Show the answerHide the answer
d) Extra consumers remain idle until a partition becomes available
A consumer group can have at most one consumer per partition. If the group size exceeds the number of partitions, the extra consumers remain idle and do not receive any messages until a partition becomes available, for example if another consumer crashes or leaves the group.

Questions
It helps. Confluent's exam blueprint suggests 6 to 12 months of hands-on work with Kafka. If you have less than that, give the study guide more time and start on the practice questions early.
Plan on two to four weeks, about 40 to 60 hours in total. If you spread it out much longer, the first chapters start to fade before exam day.
They're written to the topics in Confluent's exam blueprint, and every one has an explanation. Confluent doesn't publish its exam questions, so nobody can honestly promise you'll see the same ones. Use them to find the topics you're still unsure about.
It takes 90 minutes, it's in English, and you take it online while a proctor watches through your webcam. The questions are multiple-choice, matching and list order. Confluent's certification page doesn't say how many questions there are or what the pass mark is.
Partitioning, producer acks and delivery guarantees. They're all part of Application Design, which counts for 40 percent in Confluent's 2020 blueprint, more than any other domain.
If you want more depth, read Kafka: The Definitive Guide (Confluent gives the e-book away) and try things out on a local cluster. The official documentation is the place to check a specific setting.
